Maslow’s Hierarchy of [Social Media] Needs

You might well have come across Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. But what if that model could be applied to social media?

Take a look at the following infographic:

On the left-hand side there are the classic Maslow levels that make up the hierarchy:

Physiological
Safety
Belonging
Esteem
Self-Realisation (or Self-Actualisation)

But on the right-hand side the writer has mapped on social needs.
What do you think? Is LinkedIn basically a safety net for us? Are blogging platforms at the high-end of what we need? We totally get the role of Facebook and Google+ in this model – but Twitter equating with “self-esteem, confidence, achievement and respect for self and of others”?
Food for thought.
