Collectivist #5: He'll help you sell

The last Friday of the month means it’s time for another Collective Content recommendation. We take someone we have worked with personally, explain what they do and give an idea how they can help you. It’s a slow way to build a directory, of course, but no one can buy their way in.

Dan Ilett – entrepreneur, editor, sales consultant
Until this year we hadn’t worked closely with Dan for about five years, back on tech publication silicon.com. From there he went on to write for publications such as the FT and launch his own publishing venture, Greenbang.

That gave him broad experience across areas such as display advertising, leads, paid-for reports and events and introduced him to a new sector – energy and renewables.

But it was combining his contacts in energy, tech and financial services with expert communications skills developed as a journalist that led Dan onto his current venture, Erbut.

“Er” and “But” are the two things you say when you fail to say the right thing. Today the consultancy helps major vendors sell more effectively through developing teams’ presentation and bid skills. Training is across writing, media, comms, social media and sales, when Erbut also works with teams on specific RFPs.

(Disclosure: Collective Content director Tony Hallett works with Dan at Erbut.)

You can follow Dan on Twitter – @danielilett – and it’d be remiss if we didn’t ask you to support his charity bike ride this month in aid of the Brathay Trust, which supports disadvantaged young people.
