Collectivist #7: Social media savvy

WRITTEN BY

Tony Hallett
Managing director

Tony set up Collective Content in 2011 so brands can more easily become publishers and tell stories. This built on 15 years in media, from reporter to publishing director at Silicon Media Group, CNET Networks and CBS Interactive.

We’re really happy to bring back our Collectivist series to these pages after a break in the second half of 2012. This is our mini-directory, only better than most directories because it showcases people we know and have worked with. Think quality, not quantity.

So far we have written about partners and contacts in editorial, events, marketing, technology, video production and more. This time we have come around to the subject of social media.

There are plenty of people out there claiming to be experts on the subject. Many talk the talk, few walk the walk.

Tony not only handles social media channels for some well-known brands (I can let him tell you about them) but he uses those same channels himself to great effect. You’d be amazed how many social ‘gurus’ don’t. Whatever his secret, Tony must be doing something right – he’s ranked in the Top 10 of the prestigious PR Week UK Power Players of Social Media list (article no longer available).

With a broad marketing and PR background, including a decade at Virgin where he was a founding Director of Virgin Money, Tony and X Factor Communications always keep an eye on the bigger picture. Social for its own sake – at least for businesses – is pointless.

As well as his Twitter handle (how appropriate) you can give him a shout over email – tony@xfactorcomms.co.uk .

Tell him we sent you.
